Batman, Magic Monkeys, Mecha, and More than - in Ancient Nippon

Verified purchase

Batman Ninja feels similar a dare, or a drunken tardily dark conversation, or a fanboy argument came to life. It is, quite literally "Time Travel Accident Sends Batman And Visitor Back In Time." That summary, past the style, is the most normal part of this.

The balance of it is INSANE. This is a film where the 5th weirdest thing is Robin (the latest one) using a magic flute to summon a monkey army. This is a moving-picture show where Gorilla Grodd hangs out in a hot springs. This is a film where - again I am not making this upwardly - superhero Red Hood gives his horse its own mask. Information technology feels like a kind of pop-art explosion.

Visually, information technology's impressive, though the cgi elements are annoying in some points - though the sheer imagination and grandeur make up for information technology. It'south a wonderful job visually.

Acting-wise, it's OK to excellent, with Tony Hale's Joker hit it out of the park - Tony OWNS his role as the Joker, and creates his own unique performance - 1 that would be worth seeing him go along.

So this is a flick that'southward for fans of geeky stuff, preferably anime, who are ready for a bonkers ride.

BATMAN THE FOOL?

Verified purchase

I have mixed feelings about this film. Here are my Pros and Cons:

Pro one. To see Batman through the eyes of some other civilization is always illuminating. Since Batman has such a solid ground every bit a Samurai and a Ninja, this should have particular meaning in the estimation. Stress on the "should have".

Pro two. Visually this movie is admittedly BEAUTIFUL. I was amused to hear that this level of detail was more appreciated with the "overseas market" than at home. It appears that the Japanese practise not like this style

Pro or Con. Y'all decide. The proper noun of the picture show is Batman Ninja. Watching this film you may be forgiven to call back the proper name should be Batman vs the Transformers. (or is it Batman vs the Arkam Power Rangers?) If you like large Japanese Robots, you lot will probably love this film. If you tin take them or get out them, you will need to make your own decision. If you are (like me) put off by the robots in Feudal Nihon, and then you may want to consider if you really want to see this movie

Slight Con. I become that the bulletin is "True ability comes from within". Nonetheless Batman already knows that. He is one of the, what, elevation five martial artist of the DC Universe? He didn't become that manner by over-relying on tech. He KNOWS what he can do. The tech are tools to give him an edge and increase his chances for survival in Gotham. And he didn't take to become to Feudal Japan to effigy that out. Ok the scene where he tried to go away with his grappling gun was amusing.

Strong Con. Bruce is the hero and should be a nice guy. Again, I become that and I don't have a problem with that. However... Simply because he is a nice guy doesn't mean that he is besides an over-trusting, gullible fool, who makes rookie mistakes. Batman is ane of the intellects of the DC Universe. He is the brains and strategist of the Justice League. Batman tin play just nigh any kind of role--except an idiot. Batman would NEVER have trusted Grod. Used Grod? Of class. And Batman would accept been prepare for him when the double cross came. Batman would take NEVER blindly charged a fortified position without knowing what he was getting into first. (As least non since Adam Due west). Even worse? Batman is attacked by an regular army of samurai wearing Joker mask (non just Whatever Joker, but THE Joker) and Batman can't figure out who their principal is????? Seriously??????

Additional: Oh yeah, the monkeys... I must accept suppressed that memory...

Don't forcefulness what YOU want... accept what it IS.

Verified purchase

This was an impulse purchase for me. I had forgotten it had come out, and I wanted to see it.
The reviews seemed mostly bad, but I wanted to take a await for myself.

As one other reviewer wrote, this appeared to be like a drunken cartel between fanboys. That'southward the best clarification. The activity and the story are fairly over the top. Castles go boxing robots, and bats and monkeys become a Bat-Ultraman.

And notwithstanding, it works. Because the creators were given that liberty to do it. The animated Gotham Knight brusque animated serial were in an effort to appease Batman fans. It worked. Only this? Wasn't. This was to permit the creators make what they wanted. And like many things artistic, not everyone likes it.

I thought it was a great, fun ride. It'due south beautiful, and voiced superbly in the Japanese (I tend to be a bit of a purist, so, haven't tried the English dub, all the same). Merely, I recommend information technology. Definitely.

Batman Ninja, Bat-Sh*** Stupid

Verified buy

How tin you ruin a perfect setting for a perfect movie with i of the most stupid and foolish Batman Animated series error. This picture was horrible and basically cut off the Bat in the man and reduced him to a sub-character with no significant pregnant of purpose. I expected this to exist absolutely incredible, simply I was absolutely incorrect.
don't hire it, don't purchase it considering if y'all love the Batman a much as I do you volition be strongly disappointed. This was a foolish try in making Batman a Samurai because he ended up being a wimp and his Bat family unit ponds in a game where you wish the Bad guys would have won... Yes, that bad.

For Transformers fans, not Batman fans

Verified purchase

Batman in feudal Nippon could have been amazing. A lot of the artwork is impressive. Also bad it turned out just another Behemothic Robot movie. A lot of the art is non and then impressive. Maybe if somebody is an anime fan they never get tired of a graphic symbol's head, teeth gritted, moving slowly beyond the screen, complete with speed lines. There's fifty-fifty a shot of a kid with the stereotypical oval-shaped open up rima oris looking upward at the behemothic robot approaching which has to exist a chip of self-referential satire. Pity they couldn't have tried to break some new ground.
The Joker - both the art and the voice acting - was very good. Acting for the other characters, especially Bats . . . no annotate.
Too bad.

The most bonkers and best animated Batman movie notwithstanding!

Verified purchase

I honey the animated DC movies. In detail, the Batman ones are ever top notch, but nix could gear up me for this Japanese manner, anime-tinged madness of this item flick. It's insane!!! And I mean that in the best style possible. Basically, Joker creates a time traveling device that teleports Batman dorsum to ancient Japan. Only Joker's there too and has conquered a piece of Japan... and he's brought just nigh every member of Batman's rogues gallery as well! And all of Batman's alleys as well magically appear. And that's when it actually gets crazy! I love that Batman can be plucked and put into any setting and the nuts always still work. If yous desire to accept fun and be surprised, this is one of your best bets.

Non The Usual DCAU Style

Verified purchase

A baddie invents a time machine as function of a plot to have over Gotham, and a lot of other villains, plus Batman, Catwoman, Nightwing, and at least 2 Robins (peradventure three if Red Hood counts equally a Robin) end up in medieval Japan.
It's quite a ride. The way contains many points where Japanese titles appear on a still image; when translated, they plough out to be a character name (such as "Batman Ninja"). This may exist something used in Japanese animation (although I haven't seen it anywhere else; perhaps its more often than not used with TV shows). Or it may exist something else entirely. I found it distracting.
The story is pretty much what might be expected: the Joker is taking over Nippon; other villains are trying to do the aforementioned; Batman and friends eventually must confront the villains, reconfigure the time machine, and go home.
Well done!

DC animated movies going downhill

Verified purchase

DC used to be the standard for quality blithe movies and shows. Well those days are clearly over. Though I practice call up they wanted to call up outside the box on this ane (and I'yard a fan of many anime style shows and movies) instead of the usual offerings, just this story was ane platitude later on another. Then there were all the problems I could get past, implausible reasons for Alfred being in the movie (and nosotros're talking comic book movies that can create many reasons for characters to bear witness upwards and that's what they came up with?!?), monkeys and bat's forming a giant mech-like warrior, unimaginative fight scenes that accept no suspense (the outcomes were never in doubt, make it at to the lowest degree possible for the heroes to fail, like actually fail, not be rescued at the last minute Again). Not a lot of redeeming value in this one. I'll pass on the re-picket.
